Himachal
Pradesh,
‘the land of the snow’, lies at a unique position in the Indian
Himalaya.
From the green meadows and fertile valley of Kangra and Kullu valley
with sublime
and beautiful nature to the barren valleys of Lahaul & Spiti with
rugged and harsh nature, where not a single blade of grass grow, where
the elevation varies rom 350m to 6,975m, Himachal has so much to offer
to the visitors. The green valleys receives the second highest rainfall
in India and the barren valleys hardly receives any, where religion
is the way of life as the land is dotted with Gompas and Monasteries
in every nook and corner of the place. It is the land of high passes
and deep valleys and is the source of some of the major rivers of
the country like Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Sutluj.
Back by the golden history with myths and legends of great epic heroes,
great saints
and masters of all religion, Himachal makes an ideal pilgrimage destination.
Macleodganj
in Dharamsala has become the centre of Buddhism, residence of H.H.Dalai
Lama and the headquarter of the Tibetian government in exile. The
numerous centuries old monasteries in Lahaul, Spiti and Kinnaur will
leave the visitors spell bound.
Shimla, the famous British hill station and the capital of the state,
has still retained its colonial charm. Kullu valley is undoubtly the
most beautiful place to visit with high snow capped mountains ranges,
green meadows, unique culture and friendly people. The recently opened
areas to the forbidden land of Spiti and Kinnaur, where permit is
still required, is still a virgin land and provides insights into
the life and culture of the region and many historic monasteries to
visit.
For adventure lovers, Himachal is a paradise. From trekking of different
grades to mountain climbing, rafting, skiing and heli-skiing, paragliding
or simply nature walks: Himachal has something for everybody in store.
