NAHARLANGUN - ITANAGAR
The capital of Arunachal Pradesh is perched on the hilly range (750
Mts.). Naharlagun spreads over an area of 2,500 acres of the low hills
with flat tops. Ruins of an old palace
and traces of an ancient capital can be seen here. It has been identified
with Mayapur,
the capital of Jitari dynasty, during the 11th Century AD. Naharlagun
and Itanagar is a virgin area nestling amidst verdant nature.
Places of interest are Ganga Lake, State museum and Nishing villages.
The Buddhist
temple provide a good view of Itanagar town. Ganga Sekhi Lake, 60
kms drive on a rugged road through primeval jungles, bamboo and orchids
on the tall trees to a serene forest lake which one can cross by boat.
Naharlagun has Polo Park (10 kms), and an interesting Botanical Garden
atop a ridge. Fishing in the Paschin river is also possible. The Zoo,
18 kms from Naharlagun, provides glimpses of uncommon Himalayan Fauna.
The handicrafts center has cane work, Thankas, wood carvings, carpets
and local items of apparels and sarongs at Itanagar and Naharlagun.
ZIRO Popularly known as Apatani
plateau , Ziro is a pleasant hill station at an altitude of 6,745
ft. Ziro is 160 kms north of Itanagar and 100 kms from Lilabari. It
is the head quarter of lower Subansiri district and is an ideal place
for the trekking and hiking. It has a Train Fish Farm, pine and bamboo
groves, indigenous method of rice cultivation and
craft center.
BOMDILA At a height of 2,530 Mts.
(8,500 ft). The brilliant Himalayan landscape and snow clad climate,
apples, orchids, artistic people and Buddhist gompas. It is the headquarter
of the west Kameng district. The tribes in this area Monpas and Sherdupens(Buddhist),
Akas and Mijis. Bomdila is also a good place for the trekking &
hiking.
BHALUKPONG A picturesque place
for angling (especially for Masheer) in river Kameng.
TIPI Is on the route to Bomdila
in West Kameng District. It has an archidarium
with
a collection of nearly 1,000 variety of orchids of rarest species.
It is a major Orchids Research Center for the North East. This place
is ideal for rafting and angling on the river Kameng.
TAWANG At 10,020 ft Tawang is
the major center of the Mahayana Buddhism. Standing on the spur of
the hill height of 12,000 ft. above the sea level. The solemn Tawang
Monastery is more the 350 years old.
Tawang Gompa is in a superb location in the far north east at 3,400
Mts. near the border with Bhutan. Dating from the mid 17th century,
this is the most important Monastery in the north-east. The sixth
Dalai Lama was born here. It has an interesting collection of Thankas
and a large glided statue of the Buddha in the prayer hall. About
half way between Tezpur and Tawang is Bomdila. Tawang is known for
its Craft Center producing woolen carpets, colorful festival and dances.
MIAO / NAMDAPHA NATIONAL PARK
Headquarter of Miao-Sub division of Tirap district, situated on the
Indo-Myanmar Border is Miao and Namdapha National Park, a few km away
from Miao. It covers a wider range of altitudes from 200 mts to 4,500
mts. This is the only wild-life park in the World in which four of
the great folines are found viz.: Tiger,
leopard and Clouded Leopard. Bisons, Sambhars and Barking Deerare
also found in the park.
ROING A
base for angling, camping, trekking and water sports. Mehao lake tucked
away in the Mehao Wildlife. Sanctury is ideal get away place from
the crowed world. Hunli enroute
to Anini ( district headquarter at the height of 2,500 Mts.). An ocean
green river Ithun run across. Most ideal for angling.
PARSURAMKUND, TEZU A Hindu religion
place of impotence where annual mela is held during the Maker Sankranti,
(on 14th and 15th January) every year. Devotees from all the country
gather to take the holy dip in the river. It is believed that dip
at Parsuramkund wash away all the sins. It is situated in lower reaches
of Lohit in Lohit district.

THE BRAHMAPUTRA The river is estimated
to be about 1800 miles long with drainage area of 3,61,200 sq. miles.
The Brahmaputra rising from a place near Mansarovar lake western Tibet
is, according to Hindu mythology, the son of Brahma (the creator of
the Hindu Trinity). The Brahmaputra runs about 800 miles in Tibet
where it is called the Tsangpo. It bends to the south as it enters
India and runs as river Siang for a while. The Siang falls to the
monsoon period, little ferries operate cross the River Siang and ride
on those waters is a must for you get an uncanny feelings of how deep
the water is.
As the Siang is joined by the river, Dibang and Lohit, it acquires
the name of Brahmaputra and flows into Assam. Coming down from a place
called Sadiya, south of Arunachal Pradesh, the Brahmaputra passes
through Dibrugarh, Neamati, Tezpur, Guwahati and finally joins Padma,
the easternmost strain of the Ganges.
