Thimphu Tsechu with DAGALA THOUSAND LAKES TREK
(15 Nights / 16 Days)
Season : September / October

Day 1 : Arrive Delhi

Day 2 : Delhi - Paro by Druk Air
During this flight, one will experience breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Kanchang Junga and other Himalayan peaks including sacred Chamolhari and Mt. Jichu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival at Paro Airport, you will be received by our representative. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 : Paro
Drive winding road northwest up the Pa Chu to Drukgyel Dzong , the ruined Fort , which once defended this valley from the Tibetan invasion. This fortress, now a burned shell, was once strategic in Bhutan’s defense against the Tibetan invasion. Mt. Chomolhari , the sacred summit reaches skyward beyond the Dzong . This can be viewed on a clear day. Also visit the National Museum.

Day 4 : Paro
Full day excursion to Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest.

Day 5 : Paro - Thimphu
This morning follow the winding road beside the Pa Chu down stream to its confluence with the Wang Chu then up-valley to Thimphu, the Capital of Bhutan. Afternoon lunch at the Hotel. After lunch visit the Memorial Chorten, the shrine dedicated to the Late King. Also visit the handicrafts emporium. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 : Thimphu
A full day at the Thimphu Tsechu, one of the most colourful festival of Bhutan. Witness the cham (mask dance), locals in their colourful traditional dresses and religion amalgamate. A boon for the photographer and an unforgettable event for all.

Day 7 : Thimphu - Talekha
TREK
Drive till Simtokha Rigney School where the ponies await for you to take up the gear through the blue pine and shrubs of evergreen oak forest till Talekha, a small village consisting of a few houses and a huge temple called Tale-Lhakhang. The village lies at an altitude from where a view of the whole Thimphu valley can be had. The trek will be quite strenuous at the beginning as it is mostly uphill. But later on the trek becomes quite pleasant as one enters a forest of tall evergreen trees. There is no water on the way and you are recommended to fill up the water bottles at Simtokha. Overnight in camp near the Lhakhang.
ALTITUDE  : 3,000m
DISTANCE : About 10 kilometers 5 / 6 hours Trek.

Day 8 : Talekha - Japhuna

From Talekha, continue gradually climbing up through thick forests of mixed evergreen trees at the beginning and then into soft pine and spruce trees. We trek till we reach a yak camp where we might halt for lunch. The tree line now diminishes. Another hour and a half climb, and we come to the Jelezela Pass(4,000 ms). From here, one can have a breathtaking view of Thimphu town and the surrounding places. Further towards north the astonishing snow peaks of Jou Dake Gang, Chomolhari, Jichun Drake, Jom Gang, Ganchen Tak and others can be seen. Looking beyond a view of the whole Dagala mountain range can also be had. After the pass, we move down hill and cross over two ridges until we reach a yak camp called Japhuna.

Day 9 : Japhuna - Jadhuna

The trail from Japhuna takes you up and down over ridges and down to a small valley till you come across a small stream where you find two trails: one crossing the stream and other going upstream. Both the trails will lead you to the same destination. The trek to this stream crosses many small lakes which are all unnamed. We will stopping by one of these lakes for lunch. After lunch we climb up through rhododendron bushes till we reach another yak camp called Jadhuna. From here you can see the rocky peak of Um Jomo, the highest peak in the whole Dagala range. Overnight at camp.

DISTANCE : About 14 kilometers 6 / 7 hours Trek.

Day 10 : Jadhuna - Labatama

From Jadhuna there are two trails one going on the left of Um Jomo over the Hetsogue Pass to Hetso - Hentso lakes and the other to the right of Um Jomo over Jomigue pass to Setso Yumtso lakes. From Jaduna follow the trial that goes on the right of Jomo. In an hour a half climb, we reach the pass of Jomigue(4,460 ms).Before the pass, you come across Dungkha Tso lake. From the pass, the same mountains of northern Bhutan can also be viewed. Then we descend for about a few hours till we reach Labatama, a yak camp by the side of Yumtso lake. Camp for the night.

DISTANCE : About 14 kilometers 6 / 7 hours Trek.

Day 11 : Labatama (Halt)

You can make a day's excursion with your packed lunch back to Hetso Hentso lake and some fishing for the enthusiasts. The other choices are a day's excursion to Jametso or to the Relitso lakes. Return to camp for night.

Day 12 : Labatama (Halt)

Excursion to Setso and near by lakes. The hike to Setso is very easy and takes only about 15 minutes. Afterwards, you can go cross a small ridge and then down to Jagetso, Pemitso and other lakes. The day can be spent fishing and exploring or we can start quite early with packed lunch and follow the same trial up, passing Jagetso, and Dagetso up to the Jomigue Pass. From the pass, you start the real climb to Jomo. After two hours of hard work on the rocky surface, we reach the summit of Um Jomo (5,050 ms).From here, one can have a spectacular view of all, far and around. Lunch at the summit, if it is not too cold for you. Return to camp for the night.

Day 13 : Labatama - Genekha

We now leave the lovely pastures of Labatama and all of the Dagala range. After a few hours of gradual climb over the lovely and fascinating land scape, we reach the highest point for the day, Pagalaptsa Pass(4,170 ms).From here, you can view the village of Genekha and the starting of the Paro valley. From here, we drop down through rhododendron trees and shrubs and then through a thick forest of ever green trees we reach Genekha. Overnight in the camp near the village.
ALTITUDE  : 2,500m
DISTANCE : About 17 kilometers 7 / 8 hours Trek.

Day 14 : Genekha - Wangdi

We follow the motor road for two hours till we reach Charkilo. Here the transport is waiting to take you to Wangdi. Evening at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

ALTITUDE  : 2,500 metres. 2 / 3 hours trek
Day 15 : Wangdi - Thimphu
Visit the Wangdi Dzong. Also take an excursion to Punakha. Evening drive to Thimphu. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 16 : Thimphu - Paro - Delhi
Early morning transfer to the Airport for the flight to Delhi. Assistance upon arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
